We are located on the southern shores of Killary Harbour, along the Wild Atlantic Way, 5km from the village of Leenane, Co. Galway on the N59. Our 180-acre site sweeps down to the shores of Killary Fjord through ancient woodland, with stunning mountain and coastal scenery all around.

Public transport bus services connect Galway and Westport to Killary.

Guests can arrive from 5pm on arrival day. Check out is at 10am on your day of departure.

Arrival and departure times are set so that house staff have ample time to ready the property to a high standard for the arrival of each guest. It may sometimes be possible for your group to arrange an earlier arrival or later check out time. Please contact us in advance to organise this. A late checkout fee will apply.

Bed linen and towels are provided for your stay. A starter supply of tea and coffee, basic store cupboard essentials such as cooking oil, sugar, salt and pepper, toilet roll, cleaning products, refuse and recycling bags, dishwasher tablets and tea towels is included on arrival. For longer stays, guests will need to bring additional supplies.

We ask that the property should be left as you found it - you’ll find a ‘Cleaning on Departure Checklist’ in your welcome pack. Our staff will arrive at 10am on the day of departure to check the building. We can provide a mid-week clean or departure cleaning service for an additional charge.

We can offer a whole range of award-winning catering, on-site activities and experiences, guided hikes, bike hire, fishing trips, day tours, overnight tours, private transfers, band hire, cleaning, a full concierge service – you name it! There is no shop or cafe on site, or within easy walking distance. There is a small village shop, a café and two pubs in Leenane 5 km away. There is a small supermarket, cafes and bars and restaurants in Letterfrack 14 km away, and a number of larger supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and bars in Westport and Clifden. Our team have an extensive local knowledge and will be happy to advise on the best local spots.

Yes, but please be aware that we are located in a remote, rural area, so mobile phone reception can be variable and may not operate at speeds to which you are accustomed.

Yes. We offer award-winning catering from The Misunderstood Heron. Whether you’re planning a special celebration, a relaxed family feast, or a multi-course fine-dining experience, we can tailor menus to suit your tastes and dietary requirements. Contact us to find out more.

There is no dedicated EV charger onsite. Guests may charge an electric vehicle using a standard domestic socket at the property. A fee of €30 per charge applies. Guests must bring their own cables and any necessary adapters. Please let us know in advance if you plan to bring an electric car.

For guests with limited mobility or other accessibility needs, we offer ground-floor bedrooms and bathrooms. One of our bedrooms is fully wheelchair accessible. We also have a lift/elevator to allow guests to access the first floor of the building. The outdoor dining areas are accessible, but some other areas of the garden may be more difficult for wheelchair users to access, due to the nature of the landscape. We would encourage you to contact our team to discuss your individual requirements, whether related to mobility, sensory needs or other considerations.

Our team is on site at all times, so if you have any problems with the property during your stay, you will be able to contact our on-site property manager. We understand that small breakages such as glasses and crockery can happen, but we do ask that you let us know so that we can replace them.

We strongly believe that we have a duty to protect this magnificent landscape, and we try to incorporate sustainable environmental practices and green initiatives into everything that we do.

Our onsite wind turbine creates electricity which helps to power our buildings, and our biomass boiler provides heating and hot water, using logs sourced in our local forest. We have an onsite recycling centre, and all our kitchen waste is turned into compost for use in our polytunnel. We’ve been B-Corp certified since 2024, so when you stay with us you know that you’re choosing to tread lightly on this beautiful place we call home.

Demand for the Killary Lodge is high during certain periods, so the following minimum stay requirements apply:

  • July and August: 7 night minimum
  • Easter, Christmas & New Year: 4 night minimum
  • June/September & Bank Holiday weekends: - 3 night minimum

Due to the size of the property and time required to ensure it is fully cleaned and prepared to a high standard for our guests, we have a 2-night minimum stay at all other times of the year. We regret that one-night stays are not possible at any time.

A 30% Booking Deposit is payable on booking.

Balance Payment: Due 8 weeks out from arrival

All payments are non-refundable as outlined in our Booking Terms & Conditions.

The Killary Lodge has a self-catering base rate per night for up to 20 guests. Extra guests over this number are charged at €30 per person per night. Every booking at the Killary Lodge incurs a cleaning fee of €570 which is automatically included in the price of your stay.

The security deposit is your acceptance that you understand that you are responsible for the property during your stay and that if damage does occur, you will be accountable for covering the cost of repair. A €2,000 security deposit is pre-authorised on your card prior to arrival. After your departure, our team will check and clean the building, and once everything is in order, your security deposit return will be processed within 48 hours. If there are any problems will we contact you as soon as possible.

In case of cancellation there will be no refunds of any payments that have already been made. If you wish to reschedule your stay, just let us know and we will be happy to rebook subject to availability. Please read our Booking Terms & Conditions for full details.
