Over the last couple of weeks it has been nice to see the starting of the new Wild Atlantic Way from Failte Ireland, signs are starting to go up in the surrounding area. This 8 million euro project will create a driving trail up and down the west coast of Ireland with the aim of showing visitors all the nooks and crannies of the western seaboard. It means that Ireland will have an Atlantic drive to compare with other great trips in the world such as the Queen Charolette track in New Zealand and the coastal highway in Australia.
In the adventure centre we have officially reached the dead period of the year. Coming up to Christmas no one is really looking at heading out west for a weekend trip although with the incredibly mild weather we are having it is perfect for it. Even the water is mild, after a run last week I jumped in for a quick swim and didn't feel like i'd jumped in an icebath. It was a stunning day and if you look at the photos below you can see that I had views over the whole of the highlands of Connemara.
For the week that is in it I would like to post one of my favourite Nelson Mandela speeches, having toured in South Africa before it is amazing the impact one man can have on the fate of an entire nation. Having visited his cell on Robben Island it is unbelievable how he came out of it with nothing but forgiveness in his heart.
'' Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world
. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others''
