Our Instructors

Meet the instructing team:

Is 23 years old and from Co. Meath, she is in her second season here at Killary Adventure Centre. Leanne started off her adventure career by completing the FAS Outdoor Education course that was held here at Killary in 2012. Before becoming an outdoor instructor she studied childcare and worked in a crèche, but changed it all for the outdoor lifestyle. Her love for the outdoors originated from childhood from going on family and school trips to adventure centres around the country. Leanne’s favourite activity is Gorge Walking

Is originally from Liverpool but has been living in Glenamady, Co Galway for the last 13 years. Before becoming an outdoor instructor Paul worked as a door-to-door sales person for 2 years. He has always loved Connemara and still believed in his school aptitude test scores (No.1 - outdoor instructor), so when the chance came to join a course in the outdoors at Killary he jumped at the opportunity. He has been working here for the last 2 years and now has a baby on the way. Who said school aptitude tests were always wrong!!

Sarah is from New Plymouth, New Zealand and this is her first season with us. She is 27 years old and has been working as a lifeguard in Cornwall for the last 2 years. Sarah studied as an accountant for 9 years before quitting everything and deciding she wanted a more outdoor lifestyle. The sea and beach is where she is happiest so is in her element in the west of Ireland.

Antonio is one of our trainee instructors over from Altea, Spain.

He is here for a three-month work experience programme in conjunction with studying an outdoor activity course in university. The weather is not quite the same in the west of Ireland as it is in the south of Spain, but he is loving it here all the same.  He was born in Spain but has family from England so can speak fluent English and Spanish, always handy! Antonio is a fan of cycling, soccer and cricket and his favourite activity is Turf Challenge

Conor is from Carlow and is the epitome of the true outdoor adventurer. He has, among many other incredible experiences, cycled the whole way across America and climbed the highest volcano in South America. His passions are cycling, mountaineering  and kayaking. He did the Instructor Training Course run by Killary Adventure Co. in 2009 and has since become one of the senior instructors. He also doubles as bike mechanic for Killary's tour company, Connemara Adventure Tours.

Lorna is  one of Killary's Senior Instructors and her smiling face often adorns the posters and websites of Killary. She too completed a FAS Outdoor Instructor Training Course and is an enthusiastic climber and walker. Lorna also looks after our corporate programmes working with companies who come to Killary for team-building and fun, bonding events. Lorna is from Edenderry in Co Offaly but now lives by the beach in Co Mayo.
